The holiday season is upon us and we here at Winters & Yonker are thankful for another wonderful year fighting hard on behalf of our clients. As a way to pay it forward, our firm is committed to investing in the community and supporting Tampanians and giving back. During the holiday season, we like to support Metropolitan Ministries and Toys for Tots to make the holidays brighter for families across the region.
Metropolitan Ministries serves Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties, helping homeless individuals and families as well as those at risk of becoming homeless.
They’ve tasked themselves with becoming the nation’s most effective caregiver for homeless or poor individuals or families. They are certainly making a difference in our community and we won’t be surprised when they achieve their goals! Their compassion and care are renown throughout the area, which is why we continue to partner with them to feed the community during the holidays.
Now, we’re a competitive team here at Winters & Yonker and we try to channel that competitiveness in a positive way. One way we do this is by trying to best our previous donations to Metropolitan Ministries. Last year, we were able to donate 500 turkeys to ensure that Tampanians enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal. This year, we knew we could top that—and we did! Six-hundred turkeys were delivered to Metropolitan Ministries to help feed the community and celebrate the season of giving and togetherness.
If you’d like to help Metropolitan Ministries, check out their “Ways to Give” page which details different ways you can make an impact. It can be as simple as donating money or choosing Metropolitan Ministries as your charity beneficiary when you shop through Amazon Smile. To make the magic of Metropolitan Ministries happen, the organization is always looking for volunteers too.
Toys for Tots
Every year, Toys for Tots collects new, unwrapped presents to give to children in the community. Run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and started by a Marine reservist (thank you, Major Bill Hendricks!), the program is celebrating 70 years of making the holiday season brighter for kids. With donation drop points in stores, schools, and offices, it has proven to be a popular holiday charity that lifts the spirits of both children and adults alike.
While we enjoy donating toys, that isn’t the only way to help Toys for Tots. The organization accepts financial contributions and also partners with community groups for warehouse space, toy sorting, and toy delivery.
Toy drop off has ended for the year, but make sure to bookmark the Tampa Toys for Tots page so you can sign up to help next year!
Kindness in the Face of Disaster
This has been a hard year for many people. Devastating fires and hurricanes have dealt repeated blows to the country. We are thankful that we could contribute to GoFundMe campaigns assisting the Lee Elementary PTA after the school was consumed by flames and the Puerto Rico Legal Project after Maria left the entire island without water or electricity. GoFundMe makes it easy to support worthwhile campaigns and we will likely be using it more in the future!
We are so happy to be part of such a vibrant community. If you want to join us in giving back, click on the links in this post and see how you can volunteer or donate to make a difference!
However you choose to celebrate this season, we hope you are yours have a happy holiday. May your new year be full of light, love, and laughter.
