A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County on Monday morning. A cement truck overturned and caused a terrible multiple-vehicle accident.
Smashed cars were scattered across northbound lanes just before the Fruitville exit. All lanes were closed but have since reopened.
The troopers with Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the accident and how it happened.
The wreck occurred around 7:30, during the rush hour, while people were trying to get to work or school on Monday morning.
A Mustang was driving in the outside lane, and a cement truck was in the middle lane. On the side of the road, there was a Dodge Durango and a man whose car was parked because of issues.
The troopers say a friend of that man had come to help him.
It is not clear what happened next. The cement truck crashed into the cars and overturned; the driver was dead at the scene, along with the man whose car was on the side of the road. Another driver died too.
Seven vehicles in total were included in the accident.
Troopers informed they need more information from witnesses who saw what happened before and during the accident.
