An infant was severely injured on Friday morning in a two-vehicle accident on Florida’s Turnpike, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. The infant is in critical condition.
Troopers informed that the crash occurred around 9:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 261.
The Florida Highway Patrol informed that thirty-two-year-old Lucie Alexandre of Ocoee was driving a 2013 Mercedes SUV south on the Turnpike. She did not slow when traffic in front of her slowed because of congestion.
The Mercedes crashed the back of a 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by a sixty-nine-year-old man of Clermont, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man’s grandson, a four-month-old baby, was in a car seat in the back of the car and was critically injured. The baby was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota and his seventy-one-year-old wife, who was also in the car, were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center; troopers informed they had minor injuries.
Troopers informed that Alexandre ended up with minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
Florida Highway Patrol informed that alcohol was not a reason for the collision, but Alexandre will face charges for the accident.
After the crash, three southbound lanes were closed after the accident.
