The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. and involved seven vehicles. So far, troopers have not informed the events that led to the crash and how all seven vehicles got involved.
We have the identity of the vehicles and drivers: 2013 Ford Mustang driven by fifty-five-year-old Angela Blase of Venice who is in serious condition and transported at Sarasota Memorial Hospital; 2006 Mack Cement Mixer driven by fifty-year-old Jospeh S. Lydic from Sarasota who died at the scene; 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by a fifty-seven-year-old woman from Sarasota who had minor injuries; Dodge Durango driven by a twenty-four-year-old Joseph Pontillo from Sarasota who died in the accident; 2001 Chevy Pickup driven by fifty-three-year-old Mario Mendoza from Cape Coal who is in Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical state; 2018 Dodge 2500 driven by fifty-six-year-old Jose Leal who also died in the accident and 2019 Chevy 4500 driven by a twenty-one-year-old man from Charlotte who had no injuries.

At 3:45 p..,m, eight hours later, after the crash, the northbound lanes were re-opened. The crews stayed at the scene, investigating for several more hours, removing the damaged vehicles and ruins.
This is the second accident in this area that happened in less than one week. Last Thursday, a blown tire on a concrete mixer truck caused a four-vehicle-accident that closed I-75 South for several hours.
