Florida Highway Patrol reported that a drunk driver hit a stopped car from behind and killed the other driver at the scene. The accident happened in Pasco County.
Three cars were stopped at a traffic light on northbound U.S. 19 at Beacon Woods Drive about 1 a.m. The man’s pickup crashed into the rear of a woman’s SUV.
The forty-one-year-old woman, from Crystal River, died at the scene of the accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol did not publish the name of the driver or the victim. According to Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018, crime victims should be protected.
The woman’s SUV was pushed into the car in front of her. The man’s vehicle became airborne and landed on top of another stopped car in the next lane.
Charges are pending against the pickup driver once the investigation is over. The troopers said they suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
